Mora the hero as Porto take control of Europa League last-16 tie in Stuttgart
Rodrigo Mora is making a habit of European nights — and Porto are now overwhelming favourites to reach the quarter-finals.
Porto edged a pulsating first leg in Stuttgart 2-1, putting one foot in the Europa League quarter-finals thanks to another big moment from in-form forward Rodrigo Mora.
It was an open, end-to-end affair. Stuttgart started brightly and created several chances before Porto took control. Terem Moffi broke the deadlock with a well-struck finish past Alexander Nübel, before Mora — scoring in his second consecutive European game — coolly slotted home a Zaidu Sanusi cross to double the lead.
Stuttgart hit back through Deniz Undav just before half-time, and came close to levelling late on when Angelo Stiller poked home from a free-kick, only to be flagged offside. Chris Fuhrich also forced a smart save from Diogo Costa, but the hosts could not find the equaliser.
Porto, who have now won four straight Europa League games on German soil, will take a one-goal advantage back to Portugal as strong favourites to progress and chase a third European title in the competition.
